Oral/Mythes et Héros
Message de yurae posté le 07-05-2016 à 20:58:51 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,
quelqu'un pourrait-il corriger mon oral d'anglais pour le Bac s'il vous plait ?
Merci d'avance pour vos réponses.
Bonne journée.

I’m going to talk about the notion Myths and Heroes. A myth is a popular belief that gives an idealized conception of a person or a thing. A hero is a person who is admired for his achievements, his great courage and noble qualities. He can be a person who saves lives, who is selfless and makes the lives of others better. Nowadays lot of people count athletes among their heroes. Why do a lot of people consider famous sportsmen as heroes and what is their role in our society? First I’m going to talk about the values of sport through the queen Elisabeth’s speech then how two sportsmen were considered as heroes and finally the influence of famous sportsmen in the society.
In class we studied a speech from the queen Elisabeth about the values of sport. She thinks sport can be used to teach vital social skills like respecting the rules and having team spirit. Indeed sport teaches respect of the opponent. So for the queen its role is very important because it creates harmony between people and brings together people from all backgrounds and ages or groups. Furthermore, she considered that sport gives pride to people who represent their country and gives them a sense of belonging. These values embodied by sport help to explain why some sportsmen become heroes. Champions are positive references as models of perseverance, passion and excellence.
The author of an article on Oscar Pistorius considers him as a hero because he was the first double amputee to run in Olympic Games London’s in 2012. He made history and broke down prejudices and ignorance about disabled people, so for the author is a hero. He was a model of determination and changed people vision of disability. However in 2013, he shot his girlfriend dead that’s why it’s difficult nowadays to say it’s a hero. A hero must keep his thoughts under control and sometimes risk their life for the others not kill them. He doesn’t show exemplary behavior.
The second document also reveals that a famous sportsman isn’t always a model to follow. Lance Armstrong won 7 times the tour de France but his titles was removed because he had taken performance-enhancing drugs (doped himself) to win. Furthermore he created his own foundation to raise money. That’s why the author of this article thinks that he might not be a bad guy because all athlete use doping and Armstrong used the money he won for a good cause.
Invictus is an American movie realized by Clint Eastwood in 2009. The movie takes place in 1995, Nelson Mandela newly elected president knows his nation is divided since the apartheid. The film talk about the true story of how Nelson Mandela unified the country by sport. He was give each citizen a motive of pride by winning the rugby world cup in South Africa. He thinks sport has the power of change the world because it speaks to youth in a language they understand. Rugby was the sport favored by white South Africans whereas blacks played football. Finally thanks to the team’s victory “the springboks” Mandela’s dream to make of South Africa a “rainbow” nation had come true.
To conclude I think that famous sportsmen can create hope and lead to better relationships. Sportsmen provide a good opportunity to think about the values of our society. They can encourage young people to be more active, to have an ideal or a goal to achieve but in my mind they aren’t heroes. They don’t save lives or they don’t make sacrifices to help others. Famous sportsmen work hard to get better and don’t give up when things get tough but their performances don’t make them automatically heroes in life.
