Bonjour,
D'ici quelques jours je passe mon oral d'anglais, et je me suis dit que e serait bien si vous pouviez vérifier ce que j'ai écrit, et si ce n'est pas trop long.
Je vous remercie de vos futures réponses
Introduction:
The notion "Spaces and exchanges" deals with the geographical and symbolic areas that all societies occupy and the interactions between men and different societies. Our world is built on the exploration and conquest of new spaces. The different cultural, economic, sociological and language interactions have shaped and characterised our modern-day world.
Example:
At first, we could start by speak about the subject "travelling the world". Indeed, the last few year, several person have travelled the world for jobs, vacancies, an exchanges, and so on. For instance, a girl report her experience in Japan. She was picked on by Japanese because of the color of her skin so se was a victim of discrimination. Furthermore, she felt homesick and missed her home, friends and relatives. Despites of her discrimination, she wrote that she would do it all again. This experience encourage Kate to sign for the Nepal program. In so doing she knew she would learn a lot.
This voyage was challenging because she had to boil water before drinking it. It was also enriching because she attended a wedding, she learn about Nepali tradition such as stopping for cows which are scared animals. She faced global inequality: she learnt that the western world is richer than the eastern part of the world. It was thrilling because she was allowed to wear a sari and dance in a front of 200 people. And it was alarming because a man proposed her only to get a visa to the USA.
Than we can speak about the gap year. It's a year before university. It's a year which people study in real life, not at school. A lot of people take one after high school an before university. During a gap year, you can help poor people, you do it volunteer work or you can travel and discover new cultures, a new country, a new language. Also some students take a gap year to escape the stress of the exam. Gap year students become more mature after gap year. They re a better person. Some professor think more highly of students who take a year off.
Finally, we can speak about the immigration. We can illustrate it by the Irish immigration. The main reason why Irish had leave her country was the Potato Famine. This famine started in 1845 and ended in 1850. It is considered one of the most tragic event in Irish history. It was due to a blight or bacteria or fungal disease. The potato was the staple diet of poor Irish people. Because they were rotted and the leaves was blackened, they could not eat them anymore and has nothing else to eat. For many Irish, they were discriminated against when they were looing for jobs because of their reputation of alcoholic people and Catholics. That's why many of them knew hardship.
But they are not the only. Indeed, between 1892 and 1943, many people have leave their country like Jews, Greeks, Poles, Italians and so on. These people were looking for a better life and wanted to escape political and religious persecution, famine and war. When they arrived to Ellis Island, they were tagged after a medical inspection with letters written by doctor on some parts of their body with pieces of chalk during the 6 second exam. For example, L for leg, A for Arm or X for insanity.
Immigrants were treated like objects or animals. Doctors looks also if they could be a good American immigrants, if they respect the tradition and know them. For example, they have to be in a good physical conditions for bending over when they heard the Star Spangled Banner.
Conclusion:
To conclude, we can say that there are different short of exchanges like travelling the world for learning new things, the gap year for the student, because they want to escape from the exam for one year but also the immigrations that have leaved her land because of some different reason like war, famine or find a job.
