Bonsoir,
Je suis actuellement en Terminal S et je prépare mes notions. J'ai rédigé la présentation de "locations and forms of power" et donc je me permets de demander si vous pourriez me corriger, s'il vous plait.
Merci d'avance et voici le texte.
Locations and forms of power
I’m going to talk about the notion of locations and forms of power. First of all I would like to give a definition of the notion. Power means having control upon other people. It also means having the right to do something that cannot be done by someone else. Power can be exerted in different spheres : economic, politic and media. Why new technologies and scientific progress can be considered as a form of power? To illustrate this notion I have chosen a few documents of various types : extract of a novel, of an article and a movie.
The progress in the manipulation of genes gives control upon people. Indeed, in an extract of A brave new world written by Aldous Huxley is presented a world in which humans are created only to work on something specific like machines. In this extract a director of a conditioning factory or laboratory is leading a group of students through the factory and explaining them how it works. It is explained that from one ovum 96 identical babies are created who will become 96 identical workers who will work on 96 identical machines. Even if this scenario remained science fiction, it shows us that science can be very useful because it enables some people to control other people.
An another example come from a well known science fiction movie, realized by the Wachowski, : Matrix. In which the human kind is controlled by his own creation : the artificial intelligence. Humans are used by machines to keep them alive by the body’s temperature. In the beginning of the film we can see millions of tours and an immense yard in which people are imprisoned in some sort of special cells who enable machines to convert temperature to electricity. This tragic vision of the future world shows that new technologies can be an extremely powerful tolls to control people.
We have also examples, not from science fiction, based on facts. Today’s NICT are very efficient to control a large group of people, even a country. Corporations are using them to sell their products. For example Mc Donald is present in 118 countries and make many people dependent on their products. This is called the food power.
Furthermore terroristic groups like Daesh are using them to endoctrinate people from the entire world. In an extract from a scientific magazine called cerveau/psycho a journalist explain how it works. Indoctrinating enable them to control people by at first isolate the subject from his environment, then destroying his memories by adding slogans and at last the subject feel himself to be part of a group and accept to sacrifice himself for a superior cause. All of this can be done by internet.
We have seen that today new technologies enable people to control others and it can be the case in the future.

Bonjour
Je vous remercie de votre réponse et suis désolé de répondre aussi tardivement. Voici le texte corrigé avec une petite conclusion :
Locations and forms of power
I’m going to talk about the notion of locations and forms of power. First of all I would like to give a definition of the notion. Power means having control upon other people. It also means having the right to do something that cannot be done by someone else. Power can be exerted in different spheres : economic, political and in the media. Can we consider scientific progress and new technologies as forms of power? To illustrate this notion I have chosen a few documents of various types : an extract of a novel, of an article and a movie.
The progress in the manipulation of genes gives control upon people. Indeed, in an extract of A brave new world written by Aldous Huxley a world is presented in which humans are created only to work on something specific like machines. In this extract a director of a conditioning factory or laboratory is leading a group of students through the factory and explaining them how it works. It is explained that from one ovum 96 identical babies are created who will become 96 identical workers who will work on 96 identical machines. Even if this scenario remaine science fiction, it shows us that science can be very useful because it enables some people to control other people.
An another example came from a well known science fiction movie, produced by Wachowski : Matrix. In which the human kind is controlled by his own creation : artificial intelligence. Humans are used by machines to keep them alive by the body’s temperature. At the beginning of the film we can see millions of tours and an immense yard in which people are imprisoned in some sort of special cells who enable machines to convert temperature in electricity. This tragic vision of the future world shows that new technologies can be an extremely powerful toll to control people.
We have also examples, not from science fiction, but based on facts. In an extract from a scientific magazine called cerveau/psycho a journalist explains how it works. Indoctrinating enables them to control people by at first isolating the subject from his environment, then destroying his memories by adding slogans and at last the subject feels himself to be part of a group and accepts to sacrifice himself for a superior cause. All of this can be done by internet.
We have seen that today new technologies and scientific progress enable people to control others. Fortunately, people protect themselves. Indeed, for example there are organizations who help endoctrinated people. Movies and novels can be considered as some sort of prevention : authors present their point of view of the consequences of new technologies and scientific progress.
