Problem: The media possess some form of power over society?
I - The power of the media
A - in the maintenance of democracy
The media play an important role in the society of today ' hui. After the Executive, the legislature and the judiciary, they are even called the Fourth Estate, because they play a role in the balance between the different forms of power at work in democracy by informing people and disclosure of truths. Thus, they prevent Governments to do anything. This is precisely what happened in the scandal of Watergate in 1971. A Washington Post article describes how the newspaper revealed the scandal, through the survey of journalists who discovered the link between the burglars supposedly in a building and the Republican party. They discovered that the burglary was in fact an attempt by tapping Democrats and spy on them. This scandal led to the resignation of Republican president Richard Nixon. Therefore, we can see how the media can restore order in the maintenance of a balance within democracy. Countervailing power is a power against which revolves against an established authority. It can be political, economic or social force and its role has the effect of restricting the exercise of the power in place and offer an alternative to the decisions of an authority.
B - A power that allows progress in society.
Indeed, the media are a stimulus for social progress. For example, when the TV station filmed students from Little Rock, they help the population to accept the fact that segregation has become intolerable to the school. These students needed police to come to school because they are the subject of discrimination on the part of the other students who do not accept black people. Moreover, when Rosa Parks decided to boycott the Montgomery bus, it is the media who have spread the message of the latter. Thanks to them, many people join them to boycott buses and leads at the end of segregation on buses. The media allow public opinion to problems. However, the media can manipulate public opinion in not hiding some.
II - A power that can have adverse effects.
A - A unique and selected information
With globalization, almost everyone can easily access media, but everyone accesses the same information. Indeed, some agencies share information to all newspapers, television channels so that they can choose the information they choose to share. Thus, they can manipulate public opinion, especially those that use only one type of media to inquire. The quality of the information can be questioned. No checking is done on this network and there are false news and images contrary to human dignity. Vigilance and training of users here is the only bulwark against disinformation. The United States is home to famous news channels of broadcasting such as CNN or Fox News, which, even if they are not always considered reliable, are monitored in the world through satellites. But reliability is still a problem as the media are concerned. If they sometimes reveal scandals, they can also make their way, or manipulate people.
This problem is related to the ethics of the media
B - A power that controls the population
In some countries, all television channels are controlled by the Government, which makes handling easier. We can cite the example of North Korea, which has broadcast videos that show the virtual bombing of the White House. Obviously, it's propaganda. In this case, the manipulation is obvious. Propaganda is often used in dictatorships for conditioning the population in a certain ideology.
The uses of the media for purposes of power: this question relates directly to a lively debate concerning "the manipulation, real or supposed, of the media by politicians", which is often referred to by the term «mediacratie» or «telecratie», because television is at the centre of this debate.
But we must not forget that, even in a democratic system, we can be manipulated. In fact, as we have said before, the media need capital. If the owner of the newspaper wants to emphasize on a subject, he has to tell his staff and so much information can be undeclared.

We conclude that the media have a power which is necessary for a democracy, but we must take all the same take back. The stereotypical image of a view which would naively be under influence of the speech carried by the mainstream media is widely questioned by the approaches of these phenomena in terms of interactions between a variety of media and opinion which would be "capable" and should exercise discernment. It is now clear that the public, has a "strong capacity of selection. This capability is facilitated no doubt by the increase of critical discourse on media. The influence of speech relayed by the media the opinions and behaviors of the listeners or viewers is a complex process, involving a multitude of factors

Voili ma nouvelle correction j'espère que cela sera bon ou du moins presque
I'm going to talk about the concept places and forms of power. I'll start by giving a definition of this concept. In politics and social science, power is the ability to influence people's behaviour. In order to live together members of a community accept rules, regulations, and laws. This helps to create social cohesion but can also lead to conflicts and tensions. Even when authority seems absolute, there are always counter-powers which question it, aim at limiting its excesses and resist it. To illustrate this concept, I chose to talk about the power of media. Our reflection will focus on the question: Do the media possess some forms of power?
