Oral /Myths and heroes
Merci d'avance.

I am going to talk about the notion of Myths and heroes.First of all I would like to give a definition of it. A myth can be defined as a story about gods or heroes, it can be a popular belief or a tradition or a false notion. A hero can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her achievements, a superhero or maybe a role model or an icon. So, we can have this question : Is a hero remains a hero ? Firstly, I explain my definition of a hero. Secondly, we'll explain that heroes can change.

To beginning, we saw in class a picture of firefighters who honours first responders. I choose this picture because first responders and firefighters are heroes, they risked their live to save pepole from the twin towers after the terrorist attack. They correspond to the definition of a hero, they didn't refuse to go and help people. But firefighters are prefossionals and it's their duty to save people whereas first responders are innocent passersby who were motivated by their sense of humanity. We need people to look up to, someone who inspires us can be a role model. This person can be ordinary, like our father. His actions are inspiring, therefore he is considered a hero by his son. We can relate it to the picture, the heroes honoured on the picture are people like our moms and dads. Then, we studied a mural who represents three famous black american people: Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King and Obama, three heroes. Both took risks to fight against discrimination and Martin Luther King even paid with his live the price of that fight. And Obama is the heir of the Civil Rights Movement. We read a quotation who said no one is a hero just by being himself. Both circunstances and bravery are necessary. For example, without discrimination Rosa Parks may haven't been a hero.

Next, a heroe can change. We listen a song in class about Ira Hayes. He is one of the few survivors of the battle of Iwo Jima. When Ira Hayes come back to the USA, he received all the glory he derseved: he was honoured for his bravery. But he was soon forgotten because of his origins, is an Indian from the Prima tribu. Then, he started to drink and died alone and miserable. After, we studied about Lindbergh. He is most of the time well-known for his flying exploits but he has a second facet: his acquaintances with the Nazi government. He is always depicted as a wonderful heri with no faults, who achieved an astounding performance which will bring him fame and honor forever. But nervers a traitor.

In conclusion, for respond at it question: Is a hero remains a hero ? We can say that a heroe is esencial for us, he can be ordinary, like our parents. Then, a hero isn't a hero by himself, he need circunstances and bravery. But a hero can change, existed heroes who change and became an alcoholic or a traitor.

Merci à tous
