Hello,
pourriez-vous svp s'il vous plaît m'aider en me corrigeant ce texte concernant les taxi drivers et taxis de NYC.

Taxi Drivers In NYC

In New York City there are about 12000 yellow cabs, which carry about 240 millions of passengers each year. To drive the cabs, there are about 42 000 taxi drivers, who are nicknamed: cabbies.
Without these cabs, NYC wouldn’t work. And what about the cabbies? They are most of the time foreigners and immigrants or sometimes retired persons and mostly men (99%). This job is very hard but it allows to live in great conditions. All around the different airports of NYC, there are 1000 taxis permanently. There are also garages which rent the yellow cars. We can find many kinds of cabbies: for example old businessmen … the cabbies are experts of the city. To become a cabbie you must be at least 19 years old, have your driving license, take lessons and get a special exam. When you ask the New Yorkers about the taxi drivers their opinions are divided: many of them find them interesting and good – tempered but they consider that they are nuts, rude and reckless and “immigrants”. When you come to NYC as a tourist, they are the first and last persons that you meet. What about the cars? They are like the old and famous Chacker, a yellow car with a black and white tartan. And why yellow? Yellow because according to a study published in the 1920s, the yellow color is the most noticeable. When, on the car, the famous and renowned medallion stands it means that the driver is a self-employed worker and isn’t independent on garages anymore. A cabby must be curious and explorer. A rent of a cab for a week costs 1250 $. The garage managers are malicious and are just interested in money. The police also look after the cabbies, sometimes too much according to them. A cabby is a good adviser and can give you some great addresses to find a restaurant. There exist also different kinds of taxis: Water taxis for example, which allow you to avoid the traffic; and also Pedi Cabs which aren’t dangerous at all. Eventually, there are the Gipsy Cabs which are black luxury cars. According to NYC policy, when you hail a taxi in the street, the yellow cabs only, are allowed to stop. There are about 600 000 taxi users a day. The cabbies discover new places of NYC every day and they are very curious. But sometimes, the drivers are victims of assaults, that’s why, in the 1970s; a protection window pane was put in every cab to prevent these attacks. Driving a taxi is going into the unknown. Cabbies haven’t any family life. They meet all day long many people but in the end they are alone. In conclusion, taxi drivers are part of the American dream and build the future.

A little story of taxis in NYC
In the late 1890s, the first company of taxi, the Electric Vehicle Company began to set electric cabs. But a fire destroyed the cabs and the company in 1907. After this accident, the most common mean of transportation was the cabs towed by horses. Later, the NY taxi company was created where the cabs were red and green but repainted in yellow. In the 1910s, many companies opened but only rich people could use them. In about 10 years, the Checker Motor Corporation made the great black and yellow taxis which became a symbol of the Big Apple. In 1937, the mayor signed a law which introduced the taxi license and the system of medallion.
