Hello!

Could somebody can explain to me why is it the Gérondif gerund is used in this case below, I didn't understand.
5. Will you please stop (to laugh) at me? laughing

Hello,

In English, we use a gerund after the verbs that indicates the beginning, the end or the continuation of an action (ex : start, begin, continue, go on, stop)

Bonsoir,
"Stop" est un peu piégeux comme verbe:

he stopped working to smoke a cigarette: il s'arrêta de travailler pour fumer une cigarette.
Donc, he stopped working et he stopped (in order)to work n'ont pas le même sens.

What did he stop doing ? He stopped working .
What did he stop working for ? (He stopped working) To smoke a cigarette.
