Bonsoir à toutes et à tous,
Je passe bientôt un exposé en DNL concernant les relations USA-Iran, serait-il possible que vous y jetiez un petit coup d'oeil ? ( si vous pouviez m'expliquer la différence entre relation et relationship... )

Political relations between Persia and the United States began when the Shah of Persia officially dispatched Persia's first ambassador to Washington DC at the end of the XIXth century. However, a succession of conflicts and incidents between both nations engendered tensions in their relationship

The establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran, marked by the impeachment of the Shah, Mohammed Reza Pahlavi and the return of the guide of the Revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini, on the 1st February 1979, is a turning point in the relationship between the United States and Iran. A turning point accentuated on the 4th November 1979, when assaillants declaring themselves as " Muslim students following the imam Khomeini ", invested the American embassy of Tehran and took 56 members of the diplomatic corps hostage, denouncing the political exile granted by the United States to the shah of Iran on the 23rd October1979.

The Iranian authorities declared they would release the hostages when the Shah would be returned to them. The American president Jimmy Carter answered by imposing economic penalities. Moreover, the imports of Iranian oil were suspended. The situation worsened on the 7th April 1980 when Jimmy Carter, after having expelled all the Iranian diplomats, has broken the diplomatic relationships with Tehran. He also decided to launch the operation Eagle Claw to free the hostages. However, this operation was a failure : an accident caused by many technical problems and sandstorms led to the death of 8 members of the commando. According to some specialists, this event would have cost Carter’s reelection.

Following many negociations, the Iran hostage crisis ended with the Algiers Accords which called for Iran's immediate freeing of the hostages, the unfreezing of $8 billion of Iranian assets and the non-intervention of the USA in the Iran domestic policy. The next day, after 444 days of captivity, the hostages were released, on the 20th January 1981, few minutes after the inaugural adress of President Reagan.

This crisis has allowed Iran to bring the United States to their knees and to make them pay their support to the regime of the Shah. It has resulted to a diplomatic isolation of the country.
This political conflict has been seen as a humiliation for the Americans given that they had to comply with the iranian conditions. The crisis has also resulted to a diplomatic rupture and the permanent closure of the American embassy in Iran. ( Today , Switzerland serves as America's protecting power in Iran )

The Iran-Irak War begun with the Iraqi invasion of Iran in 1980 has also contributed to the deterioration a these relationships. Indeed, the United States’ anger with Iran led it to support the Iraqis in supplying them with helicopters and satellite intelligence. This assistance deepened and widened anti-American feeling in Iran insofar as the USA have destroyed lots of oil platforms ( one the main production ).

Je vous remercie pour votre aide.
Bonne soirée

Political relations between Persia and the United States began when the Shah of Persia officially dispatched(un peu violent peut-être. sent?) Persia's first ambassador to Washington DC at the end of the XIXth (pas de chiffres romains en anglais : the 18th century, etc) century. However, a succession of conflicts and incidents between both nations engendered tensions in their relationship

The Iranian authorities declared they would release the hostages when the Shah would be(erreur de temps après when introduisant une circonstancielle de temps. Il faut appliquer la concordance des temps à : They will release the hostages when the Shah is returned) returned to them. The(à supprimer quand le nom propre suit le titre) American President Jimmy Carter answered by imposing economic penalities. Moreover, the imports of Iranian oil were suspended. The situation worsened on the 7th of April 1980 when Jimmy Carter, after having expelled (ou after expelling) all the Iranian diplomats, has broken(prétérit) the diplomatic relationships with Tehran. However, this operation was a failure : an accident caused by many technical problems and sandstorms led to the death of 8 members of the commando.
